Domaine Pernot Père & Fils is a family estate founded in 1900 in Brochon, at the northern end of the Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards. Fourth-generation vigneron Pascal Pernot took over in 2018 and tends around seven hectares, mostly of old vines, with a sustainable approach that is moving towards biodynamics.
La Croix Violette has a special place in the family's history, having been inherited by Pascal's great-grandfather, who worked as chauffeur to the Liégard family of the Château de Brochon. The wine is made with a portion of whole bunches from the oldest vines and fermented with natural yeasts before ageing in larger demi-muid barrels. It shows a deep colour, with dark cherry and black strawberry fruit, a savoury, slightly saline edge and a concentrated, firm structure.
Serve with roast lamb, beef bourguignon or aged Comté.
