St Henri is one of Penfolds' most storied red wines, a time-honoured Shiraz that stands as an intriguing counterpoint to Grange. Drawn from vineyards across South Australia, it is unusual among premium Australian reds in that it sees no new oak, matured instead in large, seasoned vats that allow the fruit to speak for itself.
Rich and plush in its youth, it offers dark cherry, blackberry and plum aromas laced with gentle spice, ground pepper and savoury herbal nuances. The palate is generous and harmonious, with concentrated fruit sweetness balanced by a fine seam of acidity and powdery, substantial tannins that provide gentle grip on the long finish.
Approachable now, St Henri also has the structure to age gracefully, developing soft, earthy, mocha-like characters over time.
