Penfolds Bin 28 is one of the house's enduring red wines, a generous South Australian Shiraz first released in the late 1950s and named after the original Kalimna Block 28 vineyard. Drawn from warm-climate vineyards across the state, it captures the ripe, sun-filled character that has become a hallmark of the style.
The 2023 pours a deep red, leading with aromas of blackberry, plum and dark cherry lifted by notes of liquorice, mocha and warm baking spice. The palate is rich and rounded, with layers of ripe dark fruit, chocolate and a savoury, earthy undercurrent. Time in seasoned American oak adds a smooth, vanillin warmth and gently frames the fruit.
Structured yet approachable, it carries fine, ripe tannins through to a long, spiced finish. This release is bottled under cork and will continue to develop with further cellaring.
