Bondar Hope Springs Eternal Clarendon Shiraz 2024 750ml
Bondar Wines was established in McLaren Vale by Andre and Selina Bondar, and Hope Springs Eternal is their project for elegant, age worthy wines drawn from the vineyards they consider the best sites in the region for each variety. Altitude is the common thread: these blocks sit higher than the home Rayner vineyard, where cool nights and warm days extend the ripening season and hold on to natural acidity.
The Shiraz comes from the celebrated Hickinbotham vineyard at Clarendon, a spectacular terraced site, after Andre asked viticulturist Michael Lane whether he might play with a small parcel of the fruit. Clarendon sits at the cool, elevated end of McLaren Vale, and that elevation shapes the whole wine.
This is Shiraz built on detail rather than sheer weight: dark berry and plum fruit, cracked pepper and a floral lift, with firm, fine grained tannins and a line of natural acidity holding a long, fresh finish. Decant it, serve it with lamb, beef or game, and put a few bottles away for the cellar.
