Nant 6 Year Old Cask Strength Pinot Noir Single Cask 1877 Single Malt Whisky 500ml

This is a single cask of Nant, bottled at an impressive 66.7%—a natural cask strength rarely seen from the Nant distillery, especially in an original bottling. Sadly, we may never see more original bottlings of Nant, as production has been halted. The industry term for this is "mothballed," meaning the distillery is on pause. Let’s hope it’s truly a pause, rather than a permanent closure.

We selected this cask from a lineup of 25 others, dipping straight into the barrels at Nant, searching through the dunnage for that one unique whisky. This cask stood out to all of us in attendance, and it did so again eight months later during a second Barrel & Batch Tasmanian tour. As with aging whisky, patience is key, and this bottling overcame its own hurdles to finally make it into the bottle.

Upon bottling, Lark's head distiller, Chris Thomson, immediately inquired about its release, sharing how much the team loved it. He confidently stated that if it wasn’t the best single cask Australian whisky he’d ever tried, it was certainly in his top three—a high compliment for this ex-Pinot cask whisky.

On the nose, you’ll find delicate spices, with nutmeg subtly in the background and a gentle hint of violet, offering a floral quality. The palate brings a spirit-forward whisky, where six years of gentle maturation have allowed the whisky itself to shine. A faint earthy tone emerges, like soft, damp soil or dried leaves, adding depth without overpowering the whisky’s core character. Vanilla from the oak intertwines with a touch of powdered sweetness, reminiscent of icing sugar, leading into a long, sweet finish. Despite its bold 66.7% strength, this whisky remains delicate and intricate, allowing complexity to shine through without overwhelming the senses.

To date, this is the last original bottling from the Nant Distillery.
