Akashi 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Single Malt Japanese Whisky 500ml

Akashi 10 Year Old Sherry Cask is a single malt Japanese whisky from Eigashima Shuzo's White Oak Distillery in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, sitting on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. White Oak is one of Japan's oldest licensed whisky distilleries and is known for exploring an unusually wide range of cask types, from bourbon and sherry through to wine and sake.

This release is aged for ten years in sherry casks and bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. The warm, humid coastal climate beside the Seto Inland Sea is said to encourage active maturation, with the sherry wood lending deep colour along with pronounced spice, tannin and candied-fruit richness.

The nose leans into chocolate, dried fruits and nuts, honey and toffee. On the palate, expect candied and dried fruit such as fig and prune, layered with baking spice including pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, all carried on a sherried sweetness. A rewarding sipping whisky for those who enjoy richly sherried single malts.
