Moulin de Duhart is the second wine of Château Duhart-Milon, the Fourth Growth of Pauillac owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild of Lafite. It is drawn largely from the younger vines of the estate's Milon plateau vineyard, selected from the same vats as the grand vin.
Merlot takes a larger share here than in the grand vin, which is what gives the wine its rounder shape, with Cabernet Sauvignon providing the structure and cedar edge. Barrel maturation is shorter than for the grand vin, keeping the fruit forward and the tannins supple.
The result is an approachable Pauillac for earlier drinking: blackcurrant and dark plum with cedar, tobacco and a touch of graphite, smooth tannins and a clean, savoury finish. It is ready sooner than the grand vin and drinks well over its first decade.
