Domaine Lucien Muzard is a respected family estate based in Santenay, at the southern end of Burgundy's Cote de Beaune. Clos Faubard is one of the village's premier cru vineyards, planted to Pinot Noir on limestone-rich soils that lend the wine a distinctive spicy minerality.
In the glass it shows a deep ruby colour and a fragrant bouquet of ripe cherry and strawberry, lifted by floral violet notes and a touch of spice. The palate is pure and finely structured, with concentrated red fruit, gentle tannins and a mineral thread running through to a long, savoury finish. A portion of the fruit is fermented with whole bunches and the wine is matured in French oak, adding subtle depth without masking its fruit.
An elegant and expressive Santenay that drinks well in its youth yet has the balance to develop with time in the cellar.
