Kerri Greens is a small-batch Mornington Peninsula producer founded by Lucas Blanck and Tom McCarthy, farming a collection of sites across the region. The Foothills Pinot Noir is drawn from the Silverwood vineyard, planted on a gentle, highly exposed north-facing slope at Balnarring in the eastern foothills of the peninsula.
This is a spicy and deeply savoury style of Pinot Noir, a wine that shifts and evolves in the glass. It opens with red cherry and raspberry before revealing layers of beetroot, rhubarb, cardamom and a touch of stemminess, with a damp forest-floor character adding intrigue.
There is an almost Italianate, bittersweet edge here, with notes of amaro, fennel seed and charred radicchio alongside the red fruit. Textural and savoury, with fine tannins and a fresh finish, it is an intriguing and food-friendly expression of Mornington Pinot.
