Jean-Luc Jamet is a respected name in the Northern Rhone, having spent many years alongside his brother at the family domaine before setting out on his own in 2013. His Couzou white is a Cotes du Rhone in name but Northern Rhone in spirit, drawn from a small plot of declassified Cote-Rotie vineyards on granitic, clay-rich soils above the river.
This is a white blend built around Marsanne with Roussanne and Viognier. The result is fresh and structured, with white peach, apricot and citrus on the nose, a gentle weight on the palate and a fine, pithy, almost bitter edge that keeps it savoury and food-friendly. It has the substance to age as well as charm in its youth.
Serve it with grilled fish, roast chicken, creamy pasta or soft cheeses, ideally a touch above fridge temperature so its texture and aromatics can shine.
