Irrewarra is the second label of Geelong winemaker Nick Farr, sitting alongside his more widely known By Farr and Farr Rising wines. Fruit comes from a single vineyard near the small Western Victoria township of Irrewarra, planted by the Calvert family in 2001 and farmed by the Farrs for more than a decade. The site sits on cool, mineral-rich country well suited to chardonnay's precise, leaner side.
The 2025 Chardonnay is in the taut, lifted Geelong style that Farr has built his reputation on. Bright citrus and white peach lead the nose, layered with subtle toasty oak, a ripple of barley sugar and a creamy texture from quality lees work. Acidity holds the wine focused and energetic, drawing the palate to a long, refreshing finish.
A polished cool-climate chardonnay best enjoyed alongside roast chicken, soft white cheeses or grilled white-fleshed fish.
