Hurley Vineyard sits in Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula, where Kevin Bell and Tricia Byrnes farm three distinct single-vineyard plots devoted to Pinot Noir. The estate follows organic viticulture, low yields and dry-grown vines in pursuit of true terroir expression.
Lodestone is a north-facing parcel planted in 1999, taking its name from magnetite, an iron mineral found in the vineyard soil. Its northern aspect gives it the most sun exposure of the estate's sites, and it is planted to a mix of Burgundian clones alongside MV6.
Hand-picked and fermented with indigenous yeasts before extended time in barrel, the wine is complex and layered. Expect violets, raspberry and dark cherry lifted by notes of forest floor, crushed nuts and gentle spice, with fine tannins and a savoury finish.
