One of the most sought-after Chardonnays in Tasmania comes from the small plot of land in Tamar Valley tended by Joe and Lou Holyman.
This is a scintillating Chardonnay. The fruit is the star of the show with all of the Stoney Rise wines, and it's no different with this one. No additions during winemaking with just a dab of sulphur keeping the wine fresh and sound.
Only a painfully small amount of this wine sees the light of day. Small production and a ravenous fan base mean most of this gets snapped up from the winery in short order.
If you want a look at this release, you'll need to be quick.
All estate fruit from 1986-planted vines on Joe and Lou Holyman's Gravelly Beach estate. Pale straw with aromas of white peach, citrus and nectarine and hints of struck match, oatmeal, almond meal, white flowers, crushed stone and a gentle whiff of almond paste. Beautifully balanced with plenty of tension and light on the palate. Textural, too, with a swell of oatmeal and fine, briny acidity lending sapidity and a wonderful energy to the long finish
