Hochkirch is a Demeter-certified biodynamic estate in Henty, south-west Victoria — one of Australia's coolest designated wine regions — with growing-season temperatures comparable to Burgundy. Jennifer and John Nagorcka planted the first vines here in 1990 and have been biodynamic for over 20 years. The Village bottling is drawn from secondary fruit selections off their high-density plantings.
100% Pinot Noir, grown on red-brown basalt loam over stony gravel at 250m elevation with a northerly aspect. Expect a fragrant, complex Pinot Noir with aromas of dark cherry, dried herbs and gentle earth tones. The palate is silky and quietly intense, with silty tannins, savoury depth and a cool, faintly minty finish that reflects Hochkirch's unique cool-climate terroir.
Hand-picked from close-planted, un-irrigated, own-rooted vines. Fruit is naturally fermented with indigenous yeasts and no additives in open vats with regular hand plunging, then matured for around 15 months, largely in seasoned French oak, before being bottled unfiltered by gravity.
