Garagiste is the small-batch Mornington Peninsula label of Barnaby Flanders, founded in 2006 and today run with Cam Marshall. Australia's roll call of Aligoté is very short — Tuerong is in fact the 'mother vineyard' of Aligoté in the country, supplying the cuttings for the only other plantings in Whitlands and Margaret River.
100% Aligoté cropped from three north-facing rows of 30-plus-year-old vines rooted in the sandy grey loams of Tuerong, in the cooler, northern end of the Peninsula. Expect a distinctive, Old World-styled white — the variety's trademark aniseed note complemented by saline and mineral highlights, a textural mid-palate and a clean, bright finish.
Hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed to a single old 500L puncheon for wild-yeast fermentation, then matured around 9–10 months on fine lees before bottling.
