Gabriel Boudier has been making fruit liqueurs and spirits in Dijon since 1874, and its Curaçao Bleu is one of the bar staples in the range.
Small curaçao oranges are distilled in the house's antique still, and it is that orange peel distillate which carries the flavour, rather than the striking blue colour. The nose is clean and zesty with fresh orange and a faint floral lift. The palate brings orange zest and orange blossom, restrained sweetness, and a bitter peel edge that runs long through the finish.
Made for cocktails where colour matters as much as flavour, from a Blue Lagoon to a margarita variation, with enough genuine orange bitterness to keep a drink from turning cloying.
