Domaine Yvon Clerget is best known for red Volnay, but the family also farm Chardonnay, and this regional Bourgogne blanc is a neat, unfussy expression of Cote de Beaune white winemaking from an estate that has been in the same hands since 1268.
It is bright and cleanly cut, with white peach, green apple and lemon curd on the nose and a hint of hazelnut and buttered toast from time in barrel. The palate is medium bodied and nicely textured without ever turning heavy, and there is a chalky, saline finish that keeps it fresh and food friendly.
Thibaud Clerget, the twenty eighth generation of the family, has been making the wines since 2015 after training with Henri Boillot, at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon and with Charles Van Canneyt at Hudelot-Noellat. The domaine now farms about ten hectares across Volnay, Pommard and Meursault. Serve it well chilled with oysters, grilled fish, roast chicken or a creamy pasta.
