Domaine Xavier Monnot is a Meursault-based estate with a strong reputation for restrained, classical white Burgundy, built on holdings inherited and acquired across the southern Côte de Beaune. Xavier Monnot took the reins in the late 1990s and has steered the domaine toward a precise, transparent house style that prioritises terroir over winemaking artifice.
Les Folatières is widely regarded as one of the finest Premier Cru sites in Puligny-Montrachet, perched on a south-east-facing slope just above the Grand Cru hill, with thin soils over hard limestone. Monnot's parcel is hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and aged in barrel with a measured proportion of new oak, allowing the cooler, mineral side of Puligny to lead.
The wine offers a layered nose of white peach, pear, honey, lime, white blossom and a touch of brioche, with the saline lift typical of the climat. The palate is concentrated and finely structured, with bright acidity carrying lemon, quince and lavender through a long, stony finish. Built for the cellar but already drinking with poise.
