Domaine Lignier-Michelot is a family estate based in Morey-Saint-Denis, run by Virgile Lignier, who worked alongside his father Maurice from 1988 before taking full charge in 2000. Since then he has lowered yields, returned to ploughing the soils and refined the cellar work. Whole bunches are now used extensively, and the share of new oak has been reined in, giving the domaine's wines a fresh, aromatic signature.
The Cuvée Bertin is named after Virgile's son and is the domaine's village Gevrey-Chambertin. In 2023 it was drawn from three sites: Creux Brouillards, Les Murots and Les Seuvrées, the last of which sits on the boundary with Morey-Saint-Denis. These vineyards tend to give a more open, generous style of Gevrey, and the 2023 was vinified entirely with whole bunches.
Expect a round, generous Pinot Noir with a darker fruit profile, ripe strawberry and black cherry lifted by black pepper and spice from the stems. The palate is medium-bodied and lively, staying true to the fruit with only a hint of oak spice, while the whole-bunch structure frames the finish. Approachable in its youth, it will also reward several years in the cellar.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
