Domaine Lignier-Michelot is a family estate rooted in Morey-Saint-Denis, with vines spread across Morey and the neighbouring villages of Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. Virgile Lignier took full charge from his father Maurice in 2000 and has since lowered yields, returned to ploughing and refined the winemaking, using a generous share of whole bunches and a restrained amount of new oak.
The 2022 Bourgogne Rouge is far from a generic regional red. It comes mostly from vines in Chambolle-Musigny, with smaller parcels in Morey-Saint-Denis and Nuits-Saint-Georges, so it carries a genuine Côte de Nuits accent. The warm, generous 2022 season gave ripe, healthy Pinot Noir with plenty of fruit.
In the glass it shows ripe red cherry and raspberry with a lift of spice and floral notes from the whole-bunch fermentation. The palate is supple and juicy with fine tannins and a fresh, savoury finish, making it a delicious introduction to the domaine's style and an easy partner for roast chicken, duck or charcuterie.
