From two plots in Les Santenots — the Meursault vineyard uniquely classified as Volnay Premier Cru when planted with red grapes — Domaine Rougeot's vines here are 40 and 60 years old, growing on clay-rich soils in the lower, most prized section of the climat. This is the domaine's most structured and age-worthy red.
Vinified with 90% whole clusters, given a 21-day maceration, and aged in barriques with approximately 35% new oak, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphur. A powerhouse Volnay with depth, spice and firmly structured tannins built for decades of cellaring — a remarkable expression of biodynamic Burgundy from Pierre-Henri Rougeot.
