This Bourgogne Chardonnay Grandes Gouttes is fresh with subtle fruits.
Domaine Rougeot has a long history of making superb white wines out of the famed village of Meursault. The “Les Grandes Gouttes” climat is located in the southern part of Meursault, next to Puligny-Montrachet. Whilst the vineyard did not qualify to be a village appellation, it makes a great regional appellation.
The wine has a subtle nose of white acacia flowers, fresh almonds and a hint of zest. It’s perfect to open when it’s young, in its first one to four years. It goes well with cured meat such as prosciutto or scallops with creamy sauce.
Racked, and so far without sulphur. There is time to decide while the wine remains en masse, but as Pierre-Henri has two tanks he may do add sulphur to one and continue without added sulphur for the other. Pretty mid lemon colour. The first nose is faintly oxidative, but not the wine underneath. Very fresh apples on the palate, though feeling ripe, and good enough acidity in this cuvée. Excellent body, very promising for the future.
