Isabella is the chardonnay from Wantirna Estate, the Egan family's single vineyard in the Yarra Valley, established by Reg Egan in 1963 and one of the region's pioneering modern plantings. Named after one of the family's granddaughters, it is grown from mature vines, mostly on an east facing slope of the estate's small cool climate vineyard.
The 2025 season was one of the estate's earliest, with a dry, warm summer following spring budburst. The resulting wine shows great texture and terrific balancing acidity, and the family sees it as a classic expression of the vineyard. In past vintages Isabella has been noted for its pure fruit, intensity and balance of restraint and ripeness.
Production is tiny, with just 940 bottles made in 2025, reflecting the small crops from the old vines. The estate describes Isabella as a textured, balanced wine with plenty of ageing potential.
