Domaine Pernot Père et Fils is a family estate in Brochon on the Côte de Nuits, worked today by fourth-generation Pascal Pernot. After studies at Dijon's wine university and early work in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Pascal returned to continue a family tradition stretching back to the early 20th century, tending around 7 hectares of Pinot Noir across the Bourgogne, Côte de Nuits Villages and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations.
The Gevrey-Chambertin 2023 is drawn from the estate's village-level holdings, with an average vine age of around 60 years planted on the classic clay-limestone soils that define this celebrated Côte de Nuits commune. It shows an intense, brilliant red colour with a nose of red and black fruit layered with subtle woody notes. The palate is generous and elegant, with beautifully ripened fruit, refined texture, depth, freshness and a long, persistent finish.
Grapes are hand-harvested and given a week of cold maceration, fermented with indigenous yeasts and vatted for around three weeks at 30°C, with punching down and pumping over guided by daily tastings. Pascal favours lace-like wines, vinifying at length without pushing extraction and aging gently for 14 months in oak barrels, a third new, a third one-wine and a third more than three wines old.
