From Domaine Marcel Deiss, the family estate based in Bergheim in central Alsace. Run by Jean-Michel Deiss since 1981 and now in the hands of his son Mathieu, the domaine is a leading proponent of biodynamic viticulture and the historical practice of complantation, in which multiple grape varieties are co-planted, harvested and vinified together as a single field blend.
An Alsace blanc from co-planted parcels on the village of Ribeauvillé, drawn from the Gruenspiel, Hagueneau and Weinbaum lieux-dits. The soils are calcareous Muschelkalk with clay and quaternary inclusions of sandstone and stones. Expect a precise, finely chiselled wine, horizontal in shape and shadowed in tone, reflecting the village's distinctive cool-stone, mineral character.
Slow, gentle pressing and slow fermentation with native yeasts, with extended aging on lees in neutral vessels before bottling without oenological inputs.
