Aligoté is Burgundy's other white grape, long treated as an afterthought and now enjoying a serious reappraisal as growers give it better sites and more careful handling. It is naturally higher in acidity than Chardonnay and far less inclined to richness, which makes it one of the most refreshing things in the region and a natural partner for shellfish, goat's cheese and anything sharp.
The nose is brisk and clean, with lemon, green apple and a hint of white flowers. On the palate it is lively and light on its feet, with crisp orchard fruit, a faint herbal note and a bracing citrus finish that leaves the mouth watering.
Philippe Bouzereau is the ninth generation of a Meursault vine-growing family and has run the 18 hectare domaine since 2006 with his brother Charles, from the Château de Cîteaux in the centre of the village. The same care that goes into their premier crus applies here: hand harvesting, gentle pressing and fermentation with indigenous yeasts.
