Morgeot occupies the southern end of Chassagne-Montrachet, the largest of the village's premier crus and the one with the heaviest, most clay-rich soils. Wines from here are the broadest and most substantial whites in the commune, with a weight of fruit that sets them apart from the tauter sites higher up the slope.
The nose is generous, with ripe peach, pear and lemon confit over hazelnut and a light toasted spice. The palate is full and rounded, coating the mouth with orchard fruit before a mineral seam pulls it back into line, and the finish is long, nutty and quietly savoury.
Marc-Antonin Blain established his domaine in 2009 in the centre of Chassagne-Montrachet, farming vines that have belonged to his family since 1683 and which came to him directly from his grandfather. He grew up at Domaine Blain-Gagnard, where his parents Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard still work.
