Domaine Landron-Chartier is a family estate in the Coteaux d'Ancenis sub-region of Muscadet, north-east of Nantes. Third-generation winemaker Bernard Landron relocated to this lesser-known corner of the appellation in 2002, and when his son Benoît returned in 2008 after studies in viticulture and oenology, the pair began bottling under their own label. Organic conversion started in 2010, and the family today farms around 25 hectares with a new cellar in Oudon commissioned for the 2017 harvest.
This Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire 2023 is 100% Melon de Bourgogne, drawn from vineyards around the towns of Ligne and Oudon on mica schist and greenstone soils laced with decomposed volcanic material. The nose is iodine-tinged and fruity, with white flowers, apricot, white peach and lemon. The palate is bone-dry, taut and textured, with a lovely mineral saline finish that speaks clearly to the Atlantic-influenced climate of the northern Loire.
Hand-harvested grapes are vinified separately by terroir with native-yeast fermentation and no malolactic conversion. The wine is aged on fine lees in glass-lined concrete tanks for around six months and given only a light filtration before bottling. Alcohol is around 12%.
