Hermitage Blanc from Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, one of the most revered estates in the Northern Rhône. The Chave family has been growing grapes in the appellation since 1481, with the current generation - father Gérard and son Jean-Louis - widely regarded as benchmark producers across 16 unbroken generations. The estate farms around 14.5ha on the Hermitage hill, including a highly coveted 5ha of white varieties.
Typically a blend of 80–85% Marsanne and 15–20% Roussanne, drawn from old vines across prized lieux-dits including Péléat, Les Rocoules, Maison Blanche and l'Ermite. The 2022 offers a complex, ripe bouquet of honeysuckle, almond, lemon zest, white flowers, ripe peach, cedar, quince and baked orchard fruits, leading into a full-bodied, concentrated palate framed by chalky dry extract and a gently phenolic, gastronomic bitterness on a long, precise finish.
Each parcel is vinified separately, with fermentation split roughly one-third in French oak and two-thirds in stainless steel. The wine is racked off fine lees, aged for around 18 months in mostly neutral oak, and bottled unfiltered. Production sits at around 1,250 cases per year. 2022 was the earliest harvest in the estate's history.
