Chassagne-Montrachet is the neighbouring commune to this domaine's Puligny base, and the difference between the two is one of the more instructive comparisons in white Burgundy. Chassagne carries a little more flesh and a firmer, more overtly citrus profile, with the limestone showing through directly rather than through the filigree that Puligny is known for.
Grapefruit, lemon pith and white blossom open the nose, backed by a light nutty note and a hint of gunflint. The palate is crisp and cleanly structured, with a chalky grip through the middle, good depth of fruit and a dry, mineral finish that holds well.
Jacques Carillon is part of a Puligny-Montrachet family whose winemaking has passed from father to son since at least 1632. The present estate dates from the 2010 harvest, when the holdings built up by his father Louis were divided between Jacques and his brother François.
