Chambolle-Musigny is the most perfumed and most delicate village on the Cote de Nuits, and it suits the Raphet approach perfectly. This is a house that prizes purity and finesse over extraction, so a commune built on lace rather than muscle plays directly to its strengths.
The nose is floral and immediately expressive: violet, rose petal, red cherry and raspberry, with a hint of spice and a fine chalky mineral thread. On the palate it is silky and light footed, tannins almost weightless, acidity bright, and the finish long and quietly insistent rather than emphatic.
Domaine Gerard Raphet has been in Morey-Saint-Denis since the 1920s and is now in its fourth generation, with Gerard working alongside his daughter Marion across twelve hectares. Light extraction, around fifteen per cent new oak, no fining and no filtration keep the site in the foreground. Beautiful with poultry, veal, salmon or delicate mushroom dishes.
