The name says it plainly: three grape varieties. Trois Cépages brings together Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Poulsard, the trio of red grapes that defines the Jura, in a single Arbois blend. Poulsard gives perfume and pale colour, Trousseau brings spice and structure, and Pinot Noir adds flesh and length.
Domaine du Pélican is the Jura estate of Guillaume d'Angerville, who also runs the celebrated Domaine Marquis d'Angerville in Volnay. He was drawn to Arbois after tasting a local Chardonnay that changed his mind about the region, and the vineyards here are farmed biodynamically with a light hand in the cellar.
The wine is light on its feet and endlessly drinkable. Red cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry sit over dried herbs, white pepper and a savoury earthy note, with fine, sappy tannins and a bright, crunchy finish. Serve it with a light chill alongside charcuterie, roast chicken or mushroom dishes.
