The regional Bourgogne Chardonnay is where a Chassagne grower's habits show up most clearly, because there is nowhere for a lesser wine to hide behind a famous name. Drawn from vineyards around the village, it carries the same limestone character as the wines above it in the range, scaled down but not diluted.
Lemon, green apple and white flowers lead the nose, with a subtle nutty note from barrel. The palate is fresh and cleanly built, with crisp fruit, a light chalky texture and a dry, easy finish. It is a wine for drinking rather than cellaring, and none the worse for it.
Domaine Bruno Colin was created in 2003 when Michel Colin-Deleger's estate was divided between his sons, and Bruno now works around eight hectares from the family's old cellars in the middle of Chassagne-Montrachet. Alongside the village and premier cru wines he makes a small range of regional bottlings from Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
