Bourgogne Rouge is the entry point to red Burgundy, and from a southern Côte de Beaune estate it usually means Pinot Noir grown around Maranges and Santenay, where the fruit tends to be a touch darker and more robust than further north. It is the sort of wine that rewards a light chill and asks nothing of the cellar.
Red cherry, cranberry and a hint of violet lead the nose, with a light earthy, peppery note behind. The palate is bright and easy-going, with fresh red fruit, soft fine tannins and a clean, savoury finish.
Domaine Bachelet-Monnot was founded in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, working from Dezize-lès-Maranges. Around eight of their roughly 23 hectares sit in Maranges itself, and the estate applies the same traditional, terroir-led thinking to its regional wines as to the premier and grand crus at the other end of the range.
