A regional Bourgogne Blanc from a cellar whose top wines come from Bâtard-Montrachet and the premier crus of Puligny tends to be worth paying attention to, because the same working method applies right down the range. This is Chardonnay handled exactly as the village wines are, simply from younger vines and less exalted ground.
Lemon, green apple and white flowers open the nose, with a gentle nutty note from barrel. The palate is fresh and cleanly built, with crisp fruit, a light chalky texture and a dry, easy finish. Uncomplicated in the best sense.
Marc and Alexandre Bachelet set up in 2005 at Dezize-lès-Maranges, expanding considerably in 2011 when their father handed over the rest of his vines. The whites go through a long press, ferment on indigenous yeasts in 350 litre barrels, and finish in stainless steel, a style built around air, patience and structure rather than oak.
