Dappled is a small Yarra Valley producer led by winemaker Shaun Crinion, whose Burgundian training informs a precise, low-intervention style. This Single Vineyard bottling from the Lieu-dit Series comes from the Cordell family vineyard at Macclesfield, in the cool far south-eastern corner of the Upper Yarra Valley, planted to the MV6 clone on red soils.
Hand-picked fruit is given a long cold soak, fermented with a portion of whole bunches and native yeasts, then matured in French oak. The result is a deeply coloured, aromatic Pinot Noir with black cherry, cranberry, cola root and gentle spice, over a palate that is silky and structured with real drive and length.
Detailed and site-expressive, it is a lovely example of cool-climate Upper Yarra Pinot Noir.
