The Dalmore King Alexander III is a jewel of the distillery's Principal Collection and one of the most distinctive single malts in the Highland canon. Named in honour of the 13th century Scottish king whose story is entwined with the Mackenzie clan legend of the royal stag, it carries the emblem that has crowned every bottle of Dalmore since.
Remarkably, this expression is finished across six different cask types, an ambitious feat of maturation overseen by the distillery's master whisky makers. Small batch bourbon casks are married with Matusalem oloroso sherry casks, Madeira barrels, Marsala casks, port pipes and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques to create a whisky of extraordinary depth.
The result is a beautifully harmonious malt, with aromas of red berry fruits and a hint of passion fruit leading to a palate of citrus zest, vanilla, creme caramel and crushed almonds. A warm, gently spiced finish of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger rounds out a truly special dram, ideal for savouring slowly.
