From Domaine du Clos de Tart, one of Burgundy's most legendary estates and the sole owner of the eponymous 7.53-hectare Grand Cru monopole in Morey-Saint-Denis, the largest Grand Cru monopole in Burgundy. Founded in 1141 by Cistercian nuns of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Tart, the vineyard has had only four owners in its 900-year history. Since 2018, it has been part of the Pinault family's Artémis Domaines, which also owns Château Latour and Domaine d'Eugénie.
The flagship wine of the estate: a Grand Cru monopole made entirely from Pinot Noir grown on the 7.53-hectare clos, sitting between Bonnes-Mares to the south and Clos des Lambrays to the north. The vineyard is divided into 13 plots and farmed biodynamically, on clay-limestone soils with east to south-east exposure. Expect a wine of exquisite energy and subtlety, with delicate wild strawberry, red and dark fruit, rose petal, forest floor and spice, leading into a structured, elegant palate of remarkable harmony, freshness and an almost endless finish.
Hand-harvested from old vines around 60 years of age, with around 50% whole clusters used during fermentation in new wooden vats sized to allow plot-by-plot vinification. Aged for around 18 months in oak barrels with around 65% new wood.
