Château Pontet-Canet is a Cinquième Cru Classé estate in Pauillac, classified in 1855 and today one of the largest holdings in the appellation at around 81 hectares. Its origins trace to the early eighteenth century, when Jean-François de Pontet assembled vineyard land north of the village of Pauillac and joined it with a neighbouring plot known as Canet. The Tesseron family has owned the property since 1975, with Alfred Tesseron driving the estate's shift to organic and biodynamic farming, work that made Pontet-Canet the first classified growth in the Médoc to earn both certifications in 2010. Draft horses work the oldest parcels, and the vineyard core sits on the deep gravel plateau over clay and limestone.

The 2015 is a blend of roughly 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, with the balance made up of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is a deeply coloured, densely built Pauillac, with cassis, dark plum, graphite and cedar layered over incense and baking spice. The palate is full-bodied and finely textured, the tannins dense but polished, and there is a mineral, saline undertow that runs through to a long, structured finish. It has the frame for extended cellaring, and will keep evolving over several decades.

The 2015 growing season was warmer and notably dry from February through July, limiting berry size and concentrating the fruit, with later rainfall helping the final stages of ripening. Maturation is split across roughly 50% new French oak, 15% second-fill barrels and 35% in concrete amphorae, the estate's bespoke Dolia, which build texture and fruit purity without adding oak weight. 2015 was the first vintage in which the estate declassified nothing to a second wine.
