Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is one of the benchmark Pauillac estates, classified as a Second Growth (2ème Grand Cru Classé) in the 1855 Classification and routinely spoken of as a 'super second'. Owned since 1987 by AXA Millésimes, the property has been transformed by decades of investment. The 2022 is among the finest vintages in the estate's recent history.
A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot. The 2022 is a quintessential modern Pauillac — deep, almost opaque, with aromas of crème de cassis, sweet dark berries, lilac, cedar, graphite and pencil shavings. The palate is layered and velvety, with fine-grained tannins, excellent concentration and a long, penetrating finish. Elegant, polished and built for very long cellaring.
The grapes were picked between 8 September and 3 October. The Grand Vin spent 16 months in French oak barrels (70% new), followed by two months in wood vats prior to bottling, which took place in June of the following year. 14.3% alcohol.
