Château des Rontets is a family-run estate perched on a hill above the village of Fuissé in the Mâconnais, southern Burgundy. Run by Claire Gazeau-Montrasi and her husband Fabio Montrasi, the property has been farmed organically (certified since 2005) and biodynamically, with the vineyards worked by hand and, where practical, by horse.
100% Chardonnay from Clos Varambon — a walled vineyard planted largely between 1950 and 1960. Expect an expressive, single-parcel Pouilly-Fuissé with aromas of buttered citrus, confit orange, white flowers and fresh herbs. The palate is medium to full-bodied, fleshy yet vibrant, with racy acidity, silky texture and a long, penetrating finish.
Hand-harvested, with spontaneous fermentation on indigenous yeasts followed by around 10 months of ageing on lees in used oak barrels and foudres (no new oak). Bottled after light filtration.
