From Château d'Arche, a Grand Cru Classé estate of the 1855 classification in the Sauternes appellation, in the Bordeaux region. Founded in 1580 by Henry d'Arche, the property is one of the oldest in Sauternes, and at one time shared ownership with neighbouring Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey. The estate now spans around 30 hectares, planted predominantly to Sémillon.
The Cuvée Arche-Lafaurie 'Crème de Tête' is an exceptional micro-cuvée produced only in the very finest vintages, paying tribute to Pierre Lafaurie, the proprietor who contributed to the estate's classification in 1855. The wine is produced solely from the 'trie de tête', the very first sorting of the harvest, in which only the grapes most heavily affected by noble rot are selected by hand. Expect a wine of extraordinary aromatic complexity, with apricot, quince, candied citrus, honey and saffron-tinged spice, leading into a richly textured, vibrantly acidic palate of remarkable concentration.
Hand-harvested through successive passes through the vineyard, then vinified and aged in new French oak barrels for 24 to 36 months before bottling.
