Château Guiraud is a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification and one of the leading estates of Sauternes. The 128-hectare property — planted 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc — has been farmed organically since 1996, and in 2011 it became the first Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 ranking (across any appellation) to receive Organic Farming certification.
A blend of around 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2009 is regarded as one of Guiraud's finest recent vintages. Expect a beautifully delineated bouquet of wild honey, orange pith, Seville orange marmalade and pineapple, with subtle floral and peach-blossom notes. The palate is rich, opulent and layered with tropical and citrus fruit, kept fresh by vibrant acidity and a long, ginger-tinged finish.
Hand-harvested in successive sortings, with only fully botrytised grapes selected at each pass. Fermented and matured in oak barrels.
