Founded in Reims in 1760, Lanson is one of Champagne's oldest and most distinctive houses. Its signature lies in a refusal to use malolactic fermentation, a choice that preserves the natural malic acidity of the fruit and gives the wines remarkable freshness, precision and the capacity to age gracefully in bottle. Le Vintage is the house's vintage-dated Brut, made only in the finest years from a blend led predominantly by Pinot Noir with Chardonnay drawn from Grand and Premier Cru villages, then rested on lees for the best part of a decade before release.
The 2009 comes from a warm, generous growing season, and it shows in the glass. The nose is expressive and inviting, with pear, apricot and candied fruit lifted by honeyed, floral tones of acacia and linden blossom. The palate is dense and rich, offering pear and quince alongside a bright thread of citrus, while gentle acidity keeps everything in balance through a long, persistent finish.
A characterful aperitif that also has the weight to sit alongside roast poultry, creamy soft cheeses or richer seafood dishes. Serve well chilled in a white wine glass to let its aromatics open.
