Bérêche et Fils is a family Champagne house whose roots go back to 1847, and its wines are known for faithfully expressing where they come from. This Grand Cru Cramant is a single-village Blanc de Blancs from two small parcels in one of the Côte des Blancs' most celebrated villages: Le Bateau in the north-east of Cramant and Chemin de Châlons at its southern edge.
The Chardonnay comes from mass-selection vines more than 40 years old, rooted in chalk. Fermentation takes place in barrel with indigenous yeasts, and the wine then spends 54 months on lees before disgorgement. A very low Extra Brut dosage lets the purity of the fruit and the chalky character of the site come through.
Barrel fermentation and extended lees ageing give the wine a creamy texture and real depth, while the minimal dosage keeps it taut, dry and precise, with a fine, persistent bead.
