Caroline Morey is the eldest daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, one of the great names of Chassagne. After her father's retirement in 2014 she took on his finest parcels and launched her own domaine, sharing a winery in Chassagne-Montrachet with her husband Pierre-Yves Colin while keeping the two labels strictly separate. The estate is farmed organically with a focus on transparency and terroir.
Chambrées is a single village lieu-dit on the lower slope of Chassagne, on deep clay-limestone soils that give a generous, rounder style of Chardonnay. It sits just below the Premier Cru hillside and has long been considered one of the best of the village climats.
The 2023 leads with smoky, markedly floral aromatics of anise and white orchard fruit, opening into a succulent, round and tension-filled palate. Whole-cluster pressing, native-yeast fermentation and ageing in 350-litre French oak with no bâtonnage give the wine a clean, mineral-driven shape that quietly outpunches its village classification.
