Caroline Morey is the eldest daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, one of the great names of Chassagne. After her father's retirement in 2014 she took on his finest parcels and launched her own domaine, sharing a winery in Chassagne-Montrachet with her husband Pierre-Yves Colin while keeping the two labels strictly separate. The estate is farmed organically with a focus on transparency and terroir.
Les Caillerets is one of the three or four most prestigious Premier Crus of Chassagne, a small, prized parcel on the upper slope of the village just below the Grand Cru hillside. The combination of stony, sun-exposed soil and altitude gives wines of intense aromatic lift and finely tensioned structure. Caroline's holding here is tiny, drawn from vines averaging close to half a century old.
The 2023 is concentrated, balanced and aromatically intense, with ripe orchard fruit, white blossom and crushed stone running through a long, persistent finish. Whole-cluster pressing, native-yeast fermentation and ageing in 350-litre French oak with no bâtonnage give the wine real depth without losing the precise, mineral signature that defines the cuvée.
