Ca' del Baio is a fourth-generation family estate in the village of Treiso, one of the classic communes of the Barbaresco DOCG in Italy's Piedmont. Autinbej, a Piedmontese term meaning "small vineyard", is the family's expression of Nebbiolo drawn from several parcels across their Treiso holdings, grown on the region's characteristic marl and limestone soils.
Pale garnet in the glass, it opens with perfumed aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal, threaded with the savoury hints of dried herbs and spice that mark classic Nebbiolo. The palate is medium to full bodied and beautifully structured, its bright acidity and fine, chewy tannins carrying flavours of ripe red fruit through a long, persistent finish.
Vinified in stainless steel before a period of maturation in oak, Autinbej offers wonderful drinking in its youth yet has the framework to reward several years in the cellar. It is a natural match for red meats, game birds such as duck, and richly flavoured pasta.
