By Farr is one of Australia's most admired small producers, based at Bannockburn in the cool Geelong region of Victoria. The Farr family tends closely held vineyards on ancient limestone and volcanic soils, crafting wines of finesse and detail that have earned a devoted following.
This Chardonnay is hand-picked and wild-fermented in French oak, a style that favours restraint and texture over power. It shows citrus and white stone fruit, subtle struck-match and cashew notes drawn from lees and barrel work, and a fine, savoury line of acidity. The palate is taut and mineral, finishing long and dry.
A distinctly cool-climate Chardonnay, elegant and food-friendly, it drinks well now and will develop further over the coming years.
