Busnel Fine VS is a Calvados from the Pays d'Auge, the most prestigious appellation for this celebrated apple brandy of Normandy. Rather than wine or grapes, Calvados is made by distilling cider pressed from cider apples, and Busnel draws on around forty different apple varieties from the region.
Busnel is the oldest of the major Calvados houses, founded in 1820 in Pont-l'Eveque. The Pays d'Auge appellation calls for double distillation in copper pot stills, after which the eau-de-vie is matured in oak casks that round out the spirit and lend it colour. The Fine VS is the young, approachable expression of the house style.
Fresh and baked apple lead the way alongside ripe pear, backed by a touch of vanilla and oak from the cask and a warm, lightly spiced finish. The bright apple character that sets Calvados apart stays prominent throughout. Lovely served neat, over ice, or in apple-led cocktails.
